What we've planned for you...
Turtle Bay and the woods surrounding it abound in birds. There are 17 adventure treks to choose from. Snorkel or scuba dive and get a first-hand experience of the under-water world. You could take a cruise in the Sowparnika and in the Arabian Sea, if you do not want to be in the water exploring the coral reefs. Rejuvenate yourself with Ayurvedic massages.
Around Turtle Bay, you can visit the Krishna temple at Udupi or seek the blessings of Goddess Mookambika at Kollur. The 41-ft high monolithic statue of Gomateshwara is a wonder not to be missed. The serene beach at Kaup has its enchanting British era lighthouse. Three hours by road brings you to Jog falls, the highest waterfall in India. 2 hours by road is Yana, probably the remnant of a volcano, these huge monolithic black rocks leave you feeling awed at nature.
Discuss with the resort manager the night before and he will help you organise the trip.
Or just sit in a hammock and read that book…

When...
Turtle Bay is a round-the-year destination with something to offer at all times. Summer, between March and May, may be warm for some. The monsoons are between June and September when it really pelts down and you could get the beach to yourself. From October to February is when it is the ‘season time’. |
Tongue Teasers…
A holiday on the beach is accompanied with coastal cuisine to tickle your taste buds. Crabs, mussels and oysters prepared Mangalorean style with traditional spices are on offer. Veggies, don't worry, one will enjoy the spicy rasam and soft rotis.
Bunk in...
Choose from AC and non-AC rustic rooms or go for the hut-like 'Cabanas.' All the living arrangements are designed to blend in with the local architecture and seaside ambience.

Holiday with a difference...
The Turtle Bay Beach Resort started operations in 1990 and upholds the principle of sustainable responsible tourism enabling people enjoy a holiday without affecting the environment. The Turtle Bay has set up the Nirmala Grama Samithi Trasi in association with the people from the local community. Their main aim is to promote health and hygiene of the locals, educate them about the use of toilets and ensure every house in the village has a toilet. The next step would be to encourage the village to offer home stays and ensure that there is an increase in revenue flows to the village. If you hire a taxi, go on a boat ride or have a massage, you will find yourself directly paying people from the surrounding villages.

TAI Recommends…
Imagine lying on golden sands in a palm-lined beach, watching the waves roll in endlessly. You can get up, go for a walk along the backwaters of the Sowparnika or simply ride into the sunset. There is also a tantalising raft moored in the sea. Swim out to it and know yourself. This is one of the few places in the country that offer the options of snorkelling and scuba diving. So if the sea stirs your passions and the mysteries of the underwater world beckon you, there's no better place. Relaxing massages, rejuvenating Yoga and Mangalorean cuisine just makes it more inviting. |
